Congratulations to Kaitlyn Eberman, Kevin Huang and Aileen Ukwuoma! Their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) has entered them into the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program!

From more than 1.3 Million program entrants, each of these students is among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants who will be recognized as either a Semifinalist or Commended Student in the fall.

Way to go Kaitlyn, Kevin and Aileen! We know that you work hard and take your academics seriously and it's great to see you recognized for this. We wish you luck in the next qualifying term.

March 13, 2023: Students in the CEC Chinese language program participated in cultural exchange activities with students from Hualien City in Taiwan. At 7 pm New Mexico time, 15 CEC students met virtually with 20 Hualien Senior High students in their morning class at 9 am Taiwan time. Students in the two cities used Google Jamboard to introduce Albuquerque and Hualien, then all students were divided into groups and chatted in both English and Chinese for three 10-minute sessions. Students from both cities enjoyed this meeting and will participate in a second meeting in April. The event was featured in local newspapers in Hualien.

Students from both schools also shared cultural exchange videos. Hualien students voted on CEC student videos featuring the New Mexico State Fair, the International Balloon Fiesta, and life in Albuquerque, etc. Students voted on "Video they like to share with friends" and "Video contents they are most interested in." Teachers in the Hualien Senior High School expressed that they were very impressed by the contents and quality of the videos produced by CEC students

• Emmanuella Chionye earned the 2nd highest votes for both categories.
• Harmony Guan of La Cueva (like to share), and Thomas Winder of Sandia High (content most interested) earned the 3rd highest votes.

March 3, 2023: Four ECA students were honored at an assembly as they signed National Letters of Intent to play sports for their chosen universities.

• Francisco Alejos signed for eSports at NM Tech
• Eleanor Hynson will play soccer at Northumbria University in Newcastle, England
• Eri McClain-Yu will fence for the USAir Force Academy
• Scott Robertson will be joining the eSports team at NMSU.

March 2023: Members of the ECA Paint4Peace Club put together a "Tiny Purple Pantry" at the Albuquerque Peace and Justice Center in Nob Hill.

Designed to help address food insecurities, the pantry is an outdoor cabinet where people can donate non-perishable foods or take what they need. The club hopes to establish several more pantries.

April 2022: ECA Dream Warriors raised over $500 and delivered 30 sleeping bags, 20 umbrellas, 30 pairs of socks, gloves, food, and water to over 30 homeless people from our community. They also gathered 10 bags of clothing and delivered it to Good Shepard Men’s homeless shelter and Barrett House Women’s shelter.
