Graduate Scholarship: Ann Nees Memorial Scholarship

The Ann Nees Memorial Scholarship was created in 2000 to honor Ann Nees and her dedication to nursing and nursing education. Ann Nees was a nurse educator at the APS Career Enrichment Center. Each year the scholarship is awarded to one or more graduates from the Career Enrichment Center that are continuing their education in nursing.

In honor of Ann’s birthday, November 6, the scholarship committee requests contributions to the scholarship fund. Contributions to the scholarship fund can be made at the time of her birthday or at any time during the year. If you contribute at your workplace to United Way, you can specify the Ann Nees Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Career Enrichment Center. Tax-deductible contributions may be sent to:

Scholarship Support Available for PN Students

There are five different scholarships available for APS CEC PN students and/or graduates.


Nursing Scholarship: current students in need of financial help to pay for program expenses including lab fees, uniforms, shoes, PN licensing fees should complete the scholarship application for uniforms.


Ann Nees Scholarship:  Current graduating or previously graduated students currently enrolled in a secondary or graduate program majoring in Nursing (Associate, Bachelors, Masters, PhD); or if a current senior planning to major in nursing, are encouraged to apply for the Ann Nees Scholarship. Application requirements include:

  • Application completed and submitted by due date

For graduate nurses:

  • A letter stating admission into a school of nursing submitted by the institution
  • Official Copy of Transcript from the college or university

For current graduating senior students:

  • A copy of a  ‘letter of acceptance’ from school of higher education
  • Official transcripts from high school and nursing school
  • Two letters of reference from non-family members, preferably someone who knows applicant's potential in the field of nursing (sealed in an envelope and signed by person writing reference letter)
  • Letter to scholarship committee explaining how scholarship will help recipient attain future nursing goals.

Bill Rothanbarger Nursing Support Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes a student who has persevered in their education, despite personal difficulties.  Recipients are selected by faculty for special attributes demonstrated while caring for patients.  


The Yucca Nursing Scholarship: A source of scholarship funds for deserving students who have met with adversity during the program and have overcome that adversity and persevered to graduation.

  • Recipients shall be selected by the nursing faculty at the last faculty meeting of the year prior to graduation.
  • Recipients must be a current graduating senior
  • Recipients must not owe any monies to CEC
  • Recipients must use the scholarship money toward post-secondary education.

The Fred and Babs Tawney Memorial Scholarship:  This scholarship recognizes a student who is in the CEC Nursing program and is interested in staying in New Mexico to go to nursing school and continue to live in New Mexico to practice nursing.

  • Recipient must have a gpa of 3.0 or higher
  • Has been accepted to a New Mexico college of university
  • Intends on completing a degree in Nursing
  • Intends on practicing in New Mexico after graduation
