BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL RECOGNITION:  Career Enrichment Center & Early College Academy Magnet High School in Albuquerque Public Schools District has been designated an Exemplary High Performing Schools National Blue Ribbon School for 2019 by U. S. Secretary of Education. ECA/CEC is one of 362 schools in the nation and one of three schools from New Mexico to be recognized in 2019.  There will be an assembly to celebrate at CEC on Nov 26th at 10:45.  Please come to celebrate our accomplishments and share lunch/refreshments with us. 
FINALS:  CEC Finals will be Dec 9-11.  ECA finals are Dec 18-19.  Semester 1 ends Dec 20th - those final semester end grades are what will post to the permanent official TRANSCRIPT.  Tell students to talk to their teachers if they are struggling in any class.  
ECA APPPLICATIONS FOR 2020-2021:  We have begun to take applications for ECA for next year.  Please contact me if you need the application or share my email information ( if you have an interested candidate for ECA.  Applications are on the website at and attached.  Completed application packets in by Jan 31st will be included in the Feb 3rd, 2020 lottery.  Please contact Ms Ramsey if you want your student to shadow/visit ECA for a day!
COUNSELOR CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS:  I will be visiting 9th and 11th grade classrooms next week to talk about high school expectations, graduation requirements, college readiness, and positive/health living.  See attached powerpoints of what will be covered and contact me if you have questions.   
ASVAB EXAM:  The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Exam will be offered at CEC/ECA in the front computer lab on Dec 3rd at 9am.  See Ms Ramsey to sign up- takes about 3 hours but gives students good information about what careers they may have a strong aptitude for.  Results are NOT shared with the military unless opted for.   
CNM AT CEC NEXT SEMESTER:  Attached is a flyer of classes CNM will offer on the CEC campus next semester.  Students MUST register for these classes through their myCNM account.  (instructions attached).  
DUAL CREDIT AND FAFSA WORKSHOP:  CEC will host a Dual Credit Night and FAFSA Workshop on Dec 5th at 5pm.  Please let anyone who is interested in either/both to know they are welcome to attend for help in signing up for Dual Credit and/or with the FAFSA.

Cosmetology- We have room in any session, but for Seniors only
Geo/Astro- Session 2 (12:30-1:50 M-F) for 1 full credit of Strand C science
Banking and Finance- Session 2 T/TH (12:30-1:50) for CNM dual credit Fin Lit and also earn .5 econ credit
Ethnic Studies- Session 2 (12:30-1:50)
Chicano Studies- Session 1C (W/F 7:30-9:50am) for UNM dual credit
Navajo History and Govt- Session 1B (T/TH 7:30-9:50) meets Chief Manuelito Scholarship requirement
CEC NEXT YEAR:  Applications and the new course book for CEC classes will be available online beginning Dec 1st. Students must apply online before March 15th for next school year.  
BREAKING THE SILENCE:  Breaking the Silence will be giving presentations in the 10th grade and 11th classes on Nov 20 and 22 and Senior classes on Dec 5 and 6.   We hope to help raise awareness about Mental Health and help dispel the stigma.

TechHire New Mexico provides innovative Information Technology (IT) job training for individuals and employers in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties.
The program offers paid Tech/IT job training and job placement opportunities for eligible participants. TechHire New Mexico also provides Tech/IT employers paid incumbent worker training, paid internships, and trained job seekers from our pipeline of superb IT talent.
TechHire New Mexico is a part of the New Mexico Workforce Connection in the Central Region and also provides referrals to the robust Workforce Connection partner network with additional resources, services, and opportunities for the Tech/IT community.
CNM ONSITE ADMISSIONS:  CNM will be at ECA to complete and onsite admission with Seniors for next year on Dec 11th at 9am.  Students need to apply again as a beginning freshman- even if they are already enrolled at CNM as a dual credit student.  I encourage ALL students to apply- even if only as a backup.  It’s free and super easy!


NEW GRADUATION TEST FOR THIS YEAR’S JUNIORS:  The state approved that this year’s juniors will take the SAT for graduation purposes!
SENIORS:  The deadline for applications for the Regents' and Presidential UNM Scholarships is on Dec 1st.  This is a separate application and students with a higher than 25 ACT score and a 3.75 gpa are encouraged to apply.   Apply online at
Wow- winter seems to be here all of the sudden!  Both ECA AND CEC will follow APS cancellation/late-day procedures.  If APS has a delay, CEC will NOT have classes at all.  ECA WILL have classes, but the buses will not run on schedule.  ECA students will be encouraged on delay days to attend, but will NOT be penalized if personal transportation cannot be provided.  Please call the school and let us know if you cannot get your student to school on a delay day when APS transportation is not provided.
CNM SEMESTER REGISTRATION HAS BEGUN:  Current and new students can begin registration for classes at CNM next semester.
CNM INTERSESSION: CNM will offer an intersession again this year over winter break.  See link to what is offered and how to register. 
FAFSA WORKSHOPS: ECA will host a workshop for Seniors and their parents to complete the FAFSA on Dec 5th at 5:30pm.  See flyer for other FAFSA workshops being hosted by UNM.

DUE DATE: Dec. 6, 2019: Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship - $2,500.  Seniors only. Applicants to the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program must: Have a demonstrated commitment to community service, outstanding qualities in character, integrity and leadership; be enrolled as a high school senior; reside in one of the communities listed on the program website; Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2020-21 academic year; Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent); Demonstrate financial need. DUE DATE: December 6, 2019: National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship:  Awards: 475 national semifinalists - $2,850 scholarship; 24 national finalists - $5,150 scholarship; 1 national winner - $22,650 scholarship. Seniors who are NHS members only. See for details and you must contact Ms. Moleres, NHS Sponsor, to apply. Requires application & 3 recommendations.
DUE DATE: December 15, 2018:  AXA Achievement Scholarship. $10,000 for 1 SENIOR from NM!  Must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities.
DUE DATE JAN 4th, 2019 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program.  Each year, the Program selects numerous recipients to receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to an additional three years – up to $40,000 total per recipient. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board.
DUE DATE JANUARY 3,  2020 FOOTLOCKER SCHOLARSHIPS $20,000 scholarships every year to 20 high school seniors entering their freshman year of college the following Fall.
