-- March 24 ECA/CEC UPDATE --

Parents of ECA and CEC students:

We hope all is well in your lives as we work through this unique and dangerous situation. We here at ECA and CEC are doing what we can for you and your student(s) to stay mentally active and focused on academics so that when you return you are renewed and ready to continue your education.

I also want to thank you for the kind words many of you have expressed over having work for your students to do. Our teachers are prepared to help any student who wants to continue learning through this dilemma we are facing, and many students have responded. Please continue to have your students reach out to their ECA and CEC teachers to get work. We want students to stay as fresh as possible for their return to classes.

I understand the importance of staying focused on academics, and I have been working with my seven grandchildren that live here to provide them with resources, keep them academically strong and focused on schoolwork, and help them be prepared for a return to school. I am amazed at what they will soak up in just a few hours of dedicated learning each day that we have them. And the good news is that as parents all you need to do is provide them with an area at home to work in, some snacks or healthy food, and quiet time to work. This is also a great time to spend quality moments with your kids, which based on your emails, is definitely happening.

Please continue to encourage your student to keep learning throughout this time.  Enjoy these moments with your family – the stories are fantastic of the closeness many are feeling as they gather with loved ones and play board games or card games, or build puzzles, or just sit around and enjoy each other’s company. Although I am not laughing at myself (well maybe a little) I have already gained the QUAREN15 pounds they joke about because we have been making pizza and pasta and weird peanut butter sandwiches and nothing healthy with the grandkids. Make the best of these moments and life will be good.

I am providing you with a couple of ways to access information from the ECA and City of Albuquerque Library Services. Attached you will find instructions for accessing eBooks through ECA's library catalog.  ECA students are, for the most part, pretty savvy at navigating this site as they check out their own books all the time.  There are instructions for CEC students to be able to access electronic books while we are closed. If you would like to access 1000s of titles, visit the Albuquerque Public Library website by clicking here: ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC LIBRARY DIGITAL MEDIA. What an amazing opportunity to actually read a book!!

FranklinCovey has developed a Family Resource page for parents that are teaching their children at home and it is being made accessible without need of a password:
It includes family friendly bite-sized video principle/habit lessons, the 7 habits cartoons, 7 habits mini activities, and some student speeches from the student leadership speech contest! This is accessible to anyone and everyone!  Please feel free to share with your families and or other colleagues that might appreciate using this resource with their students and families.

The APS School District has provided many resources on its website APS.EDU for students, parents, teachers and community. Click here to go to the page with CoronaVirus updates: APS CORONA VIRUS UPDATE PAGE. Please take a moment to see what is available. APS Food Services has served 1000s of meals each day to any student age 18 and under and it is a beautiful thing! The City of Albuquerque has waived the cost to ride city busses so kids can get to food locations. There are many sites you can get food at. Click here for a list:  GRAB AND GO FOOD SITES. You can go to any site near your home to grab a lunch meal.

As always, please call me on my cell phone if you have questions or concerns.

God bless you through the coming weeks!
