ECA/CEC OPEN HOUSE & other info
Posted 9/10/20

Dear ECA and CEC Parents and Guardians:

Day 1 of the new school year was a beginning like no other we have seen in the past. Now at the 20th day of teaching we are plowing ahead, providing a rigorous and relevant curriculum, working some kinks out, still working on some other problems, learning what works and what doesn’t, and through it all our focus has remained the same: every student, every day, career ready, college bound. We are finding ways for students to feel connected; challenging students through new learning and teaching, linking students to the resources they need to find success, and reaching out to all students to meet their socio-emotional needs.

In the Spring of 2020 we challenged our staff and students to find the new normal for learning, and we focused on our mission of college and career readiness. We learned that the powerful triangle of student-family-school connections allowed our school to continue teaching students at a high level and to continue to grow and learn. The expertise many on our campus brought to this situation, the open communication with families we have maintained through this whole pandemic, and the enthusiasm and perseverance our amazing students brought to their virtual classrooms allowed us to provide new curriculum and maintain an academic focus through the end of the school year.

You have entrusted us with the education of your children once again, and we have learned through this process how dedicated our teachers are to their craft and learning new ways to teach their curriculum; we have watched our students show up every day and focus on academics and schoolwork when so many around them were literally doing nothing; and we so appreciate the patience and understanding our parents have had with the struggles and tribulations both students and teachers have had; but mostly I have valued the persistence and determination all our stakeholders have had and the big and little ways they have celebrated student success.

Champions come in all shapes and sizes, and we have a school filled with champions. One parent shared that a student in a zoom room talking about giving back to our essential workers so touched her son that he used some of his savings and took pizza to a local nursing home. I spoke to a mom whose daughter is not only dealing with the intensity of ECA/CEC/CNM classes and what that entails but is also her siblings’ teacher, helping them get on line and helping them do their assignments. She wanted ideas on how to reward her kiddo. Wow! And I had a great laugh when a dad told me how his daughter takes a break every day to walk her dog and practice dancing at the same time – he said it is both endearing and adorable, and he knows his daughter will grow out of it one day but for right now he is ecstatic that she finds such simple pleasures during such hard times.

I say all this now because I am proud to be associated with a school that is built on the foundation of a strong learning and caring community. I believe that in finding our new normal our community has been set on a path of continuous learning and improvement that will be unprecedented – not only will we survive, we will thrive and continue to grow! Thank you for your support!
