Checking out a Chromebook for the 2022-23 School Year

Devices and power adaptors are provided to APS students through their school.  ECA will have Chromebook check-out days prior to the first day of school; it is recommended that students pick up their Chromebook early to avoid a log-jam on the first day!

Don't forget to download the APS Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement form, and either bring the signed form with you when you come to check out your Chromebook, or submit it in advance by email to estell@aps.edu.

ECA Chromebook Check-Out:

RETURNING Students:

  • Thurs, Aug 4 & Fri, Aug 5  •  9:00 am - 2:00 pm
  • Mon, Aug 8  •  12:00 noon - 6:00 pm

Students should see Sue Estell in the Technology room (B101) to check out their Chromebook.

NEW and 9th Grade Students - as part of Jump Start Day on Tuesday, August 9:

  • NEW Students:  9:30 - 10:30 am
  • 9th Grade Students:  1:15 - 3:00 pm

NEW and 9th Grade Students may also check out a Chromebook between 3:00 and 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 9, before the New Parent/Family Orientation.

ChromebookAPS provides Chromebooks for all students for educational purposes.

Chromebooks are considered district property, and as such may follow a student from one APS school to another. Students checking out a non-Chromebook device, such as a laptop or iPad, must return the device to ECA/CEC, as they are specific to ECA/CEC programs.

Students choosing to use a personal device must abide by the APS Acceptable Technology Use Policy. Some teachers will require an APS Chromebook for their assignments or assessments, and it is the student’s responsibility to check out a device well in advance of the day it is needed, as there may not be a device available at the last minute.

Expectations for Device Care:

  • Student will not leave the device unattended at any time while at school or in a public place.
  • Student will not remove the District barcode labels or mark the device in any way with markers, stickers, scratches, engravings, etc.
  • Student will not remove the hard drive and/or modify the device’s operating system in any way.
  • Student will not install any unauthorized software or browser extensions.
  • Student will notify school staff as soon as possible if device is lost, stolen or damaged.

Lost or Damaged Student Technology Devices:

Current policy requires student technology devices and AC power adaptors to be collected when a student transfers out of the APS district or upon graduation. Failure to turn in your assigned device may result in the student being charged a replacement cost.

If a device and/or AC power adaptor has been defaced or damaged beyond the normal wear, the student or family may be charged a fee for repairs or replacements. Families may also be charged for replacements if devices are lost or stolen. Students should notify administration as soon as possible of damage or loss so an investigation may take place. The school may withhold the grades, diploma, or transcripts of the student responsible for damage or loss of any technology devices or equipment until the parent/legal guardian or student has paid for the damage or loss.

ChromeBook Repair / Replacement Fees*:

Screen repair $129
Charging port replacement $99
Battery replacement $99
Keyboard replacement $99
Complete Replacement of Chromebook $435
Charger $45

Once the school year gets started, if your APS Chromebook is not working and you need to swap it, please come by and see Sue Estell, ECA / CEC Tech Support, in room B101, or email estell@aps.edu.

Student Use of Technology

At the beginning of each school year, APS asks that every student and their parents/guardians review the district's Acceptable Use of Technology policy and agree to abide by it.  You can review this policy online.

ECA requires students/guardians to sign the agreement form and submit it prior to checking out a technology device.  Download the Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement formYou may bring the signed form when you come to check out a Chromebook, or you may send it by email to Sue Estell, ECA Tech Support, at estell@aps.edu.

GoGuardian Parent

GoGuardian is one of the programs used by Albuquerque Public Schools to keep our students safe while they are using the Internet. GoGuardian Parent is a mobile app to help keep parents/guardians aware of their student's activity on school-issued ChromeBooks and provide additional controls during out-of-school hours.
