Updates: Reopening Our School

Return to School - April 5, 2021

Dear ECA Parents:

Once again, I want to thank you for your patience as we return to full time face-to-face learning.  We knew the direction we wanted to take for our students and families so putting all the pieces together in preparation for the return of students was a rewarding challenge.  Below you will find answers to some of the questions that have come up or been asked over the last few weeks.  If your questions are not here, please reach out to me directly and we will get answers for you.  We look forward to having a safe return to academic rigor and social engagement on ECA’s campus and are very excited to have your student back.

ECA INFORMATION:  Full time classes begin on Monday, April 5 from 7:30a to 2:00p.  Please look over the ECA Bell Schedule carefully so you can understand what your student’s schedule is daily.  Some of our students have gaps in their schedule and we have created spaces for them to go to during these times.  We are on campus from 6:00am to 4:30pm so we also have classrooms available for students to study if they need to be dropped off early or picked up late.

CEC INFORMATION:  Due to construction and transportation issues, most CEC classes will remain virtual for the remainder of the Spring semester.  All CEC and Dual Credit classes will return to face-to-face in the Fall of 2021-2022.  Call the office if you have any questions or reach out to Principal Arguelles.  Also, please make sure that you register for CEC or Dual Credit classes for next year if you have not done so.

MONDAY ECA SCHEDULE:  There is an abbreviated class schedule on Mondays to accommodate our 1-hour Advisory class.  We will continue to have math and literature strategies classes, club meetings, teacher office hours, tutoring, and academic support meetings on Monday.  Teachers, club sponsors, admin and other support staff will reach out to students to make sure they are where they need to be.

SAFETY ON CAMPUS:  Students are responsible for following all safety requirements in order to return to campus.  We will ask all students to complete a brief Safety Survey by signing in to their device and clicking on the link to the ECA Student COVID-19 Questionnaire.  This link will be sent to each student’s APS e-mail address and they can bookmark it to fill out daily.  We will also require that all students wear masks, social distance (as best as possible) and follow DOH guidelines.  Please see the Back-to-School checklists in English or Spanish for students who choose in-person learning.

TRANSPORTATION:  Bus transportation is in place from all of the home schools in the morning and departing from ECA at 1:50p back to the home schools.  This will get students back to their home school in time to catch a bus to the bus drop near their home.  See the ECA Bus Schedule for details,  Students can count on being picked up at home schools between 6:35a and 7:05a with a return time of 1:50p for arrival back at the home school before 2:30p.  Bus locations at each home school will be published on our website as soon as we get that list from APS Transportation.

PICK-UP, DROP OFF and STUDENT PARKING:  Students can be dropped off and picked up in the main parking lot off Mountain in front of the school.  For students who drive, there is no parking permit fee required for the remainder of the Spring semester.  Please drive slowly and follow the arrows when dropping off, picking up or parking.

LUNCH:  We are providing a free Grab-n-Go APS sack lunch for any ECA student who wants one.  They are available in the kitchen of the new building beginning at 11:30am.  Students can come by and grab one and eat their lunch in a variety of locations around campus.  Students are also encouraged to bring their own lunch or snacks if they want.  Admin will be providing healthy snacks to each classroom as well.

MATH/LITERATURE STRATEGIES CLASSES:  These classes are scheduled for Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday at 2:00-2:45p for students who can provide their own transportation and from 3:00-3:45p for those students that will be riding the 2:00p bus back to their home school.  The Mon/Wed classes replace the Wed/Fri classes.  Our Strats teachers are working with their classes to determine an appropriate schedule based on each student’s circumstances.

ACADEMIC STUDY HALL:  We have designated classrooms on campus that students can go to if they have a break in their schedule or if they need wireless access to the internet to sign in to a class.  These rooms are available for student use, and the expectation is that all students will be quiet, do their work and use the time to catch up on homework or assignments.  We also have rooms available for any students who are on campus during CEC Session II or Session III classes and need a place to sign in and participate in their class.

DRESS CODE:  Students are to follow the ECA Dress Code while attending classes on campus.  We expect student dress and grooming to reflect high standards of personal conduct so that each student’s attire promotes a positive, safe and healthy atmosphere within the school.  Unacceptable clothing and accessories include, but are not limited to:  gang-related attire, excessively tight or revealing clothes, short shorts, bare midriff, low-cut and/or off the shoulder blouses, spiked jewelry, chains, belts with more than two inches excess.  “Sagging” or “Bagging” or the wearing of excessively baggy pants with low hanging crotches is prohibited.  As a matter of common courtesy and respect, hats/caps are not to be worn anywhere on ECA/CEC campus except when there are specific instructional, safety, religious or medical reasons.

We are very excited to finish out this unusual school year by getting back into classrooms and learning face to face. We want to accelerate the process of returning to normalcy so that we can enter School Year 2021-2022 fully prepared for the task of being career ready and college bound.  Our students deserve that.  Our families deserve it.  We all deserve it.

We thank you for your support during these monumental changes to our school and look forward to the day soon when we will open up the doors to our new facility.  I am always available for any questions or concerns.
